What if I just want to send a payment link?

  • Updated

Need to share a payment link with your customers? This article explains how to do it in Melio, whether you're sending a general link or one tied to a new or existing invoice.

This article will explain:

What is a payment link?

A payment link is a convenient and straightforward way for your business to receive payments directly to your Melio account. It's an easy way to get paid by customers without having to include a lot of extra information.

There are two types of payment links you can create and use:

  • A payment link connected to your Melio account: Your customer enters the amount and other payment details. No invoice required.
  • A payment link connected to a specific invoice in your Melio account: You enter the amount and other payment details for the customer. Creating an invoice is required.

Sharing your payment link without an invoice

To share a payment link without an invoice, you first need to create it. For more details, refer to our dedicated guide about creating the payment link

Please note:

  • This payment link is associated with your Melio account, but not with a specific invoice.
  • Learn more about what the customer sees when opening the link in this article.
  • Once paid, you will see the payment in the Get Paid Payments tab.

Once created, you can share your payment link with your customers to get paid digitally through:

  • URL
  • QR code

Follow these steps:

1 - Select Get Paid on the left sidebar.

2 - Select the Payment link button at the top right of the page.

Get paid dashboard

3 - In the pop-up window, you can:

  • Copy the link.

  • Share the QR code:

a. Select the QR code button.

b. Download it to your device.

That’s it. You can send the link or QR code to your customer, which they can use to make payments.

Please note:

Alternatively, you can find your payment link in the Company settings and copy it from there, as shown below.

Copying the link when creating an invoice

Note:

  • The payment link is only available for invoices that have been created, not for those saved as drafts.
  • Every time you edit the invoice, a new link is generated. Previous links will automatically redirect to the latest version, so you don't need to resend it unless you'd like to.
  • The link will no longer be available if the invoice is cancelled or has already been paid.

You can simply create an invoice to send a payment link to your customer. Check this article to learn more about the process of creating an invoice.

A link will be generated after you select the Create and share button. So, you can easily share via email or copy to use on other messaging platforms.

All you need to do is:

1 - Select Share a payment link.

2 - A link will appear below. Select this icon on the right side to copy it. Here is an example:
