Once a card purchase shows up in Melio, the account Owner or Admin reviews it, adds a category, and confirms the details before it's synced or exported.

Reviewing a transaction
1 - Select Expenses from the left sidebar, then the Transactions tab.
2 - Select Review next to a transaction to open it.
3 - Check the receipt (if one's attached) alongside the transaction's merchant, amount, cardholder, card, and date.
When a receipt is attached, we automatically extract the details and pre-fill the relevant fields for you.
4 - Select a Payee - Melio suggests a match from your accounting software (if available) based on the merchant name.
5 - Under Line items, confirm a Category from your accounting software chart of accounts (if supported) and confirm the amount.
If you're not connected to accounting software, or if Melio doesn't support syncing expenses to the accounting software you are connected to, you can create your own categories and use them.
6 - Add a memo if you'd like more context for your records - it syncs to your accounting software along with the transaction.
7 - Select Sync if you want the transaction to appear in your accounting software. Or select Save if you'd rather do this later, or if Melio doesn't support expense syncing for your accounting software.
Split a transaction across multiple categories
If a purchase covers more than one type of expense, select Add new line to split it into multiple line items, each with its own category, amount, and description.
The amounts across all line items need to add up to the transaction total before you can save. Turn on Combine items if you'd rather sync the split as a single line.
Review without waiting for a receipt
If the cardholder hasn't attached a receipt yet, you don't have to wait for them. You can submit a receipt by yourself at any time.
1 - Go to the ‘Waiting for cardholder’ tab.
2 - Select the desired transaction.
3 - Attach the invoice in the Transaction details window.
