How to verify your Trust business account to process payments in Melio

  • Updated

When you register your Melio account as a Trust/Estate business type, your first payment is placed on hold as part of a one-time compliance check. This step confirms your trust's formation details before any payments go through. Once it's complete, future payments are processed normally

This guide explains why the hold happens, what you'll need to provide, and what happens next.

Verifying your Trust/Estate account

1- Register your account as a Trust/Estate using the Business type dropdown.

Select Trust as your business type when setting up your Melio account.

Haven't registered as a Trust/Estate yet? See Entering your business's legal details to get started.

2- Once you schedule your first payment, it will be automatically placed on hold for a one-time compliance check.

Your Trust/Estate account can send payments to a variety of recipients, including vendors, trustees, and beneficiaries — even if the recipient is an individual. Since the payment originates from your Trust/Estate business account, it's treated as a business payment.

3- Melio's compliance team will contact you directly by email to request your trust formation documents, such as your trust agreement. They may also follow up for additional information, such as address verification, if certain details can't be verified.

The type of trust you're registering will not affect this process. All trust types go through the same verification steps.

If you've submitted a payment but haven't heard from us yet, sit tight - our compliance team reaches out as soon as your payment is flagged for review.

You can also contact a member of our support team for help if needed.

4- In your Melio dashboard, select the payment that's on hold for review to open the Payment and bill details popup.

5- Follow the prompts to attach and upload the requested documents.

6- Once your documents are reviewed and confirmed, your payment will begin processing.

That's it! Your Trust/Estate account is verified, and you can continue making payments through Melio as usual.
