How Melio's Refer & earn program works

  • Updated

The Refer & earn program is gradually rolling out to ensure the best experience for everyone. If you don't see it in your account yet, it's on its way.

Refer & earn program let you earn $300 for every business you refer that signs up for Melio through your link and starts making or receiving payments. Businesses you refer also receive a 15% discount on their subscription when they join.

To earn the reward, the referred business needs to reach a qualifying payment threshold. See Refer & Earn: Eligibility requirements for details.

This article is for Melio users who refer businesses through the Refer & earn program inside their Melio account.

Melio also has a separate Affiliate program, open to anyone — including people who don’t have a Melio account — where you earn a commission by promoting Melio to a broader audience. If you’re looking for that, visit the Melio Affiliate program page.

What is Refer & earn?

Refer & earn is a rewards program. You get a single, unique referral link that any user of your Melio account can share. When a business signs up through your link and meets the payment threshold, you earn $300. There's no cap on how many businesses you can refer.

You'll find Refer & earn in the left-hand navigation of your Melio account.

Who can refer?

Any user in your Melio account can share the referral link. Rewards always accrue to your business - not to the individual who shared the link.

Only Owner and Admins can set up and manage the rewards account. Other users can still share the link but won't see the payout setup or management options.

For accounting businesses:

  • Refer & earn is designed for the businesses you refer, but don't manage payments for - businesses that handle their own bills and payments and could benefit from Melio.
  • You cannot get a reward for the clients you manage the payments for.
  • The businesses you refer via the Refer and Earn program won't appear in your Clients dashboard, and you won't have access to their Melio account.
  • Referrals are tracked separately from your Partner Program, and not included in it.

How to share your referral link

There are two ways to share, both from your Refer and earn page:

  • Copy your link: Copy your unique referral link and share it however you like.

  • Send via email: Open the email tool, preview the message Melio will send, and enter a recipient's email address to send it directly.

How rewards are earned

A referral becomes a completed referral, eligible for your $300 reward, when both of these conditions are met:

  • The business you referred signs up for Melio as a new registration using your link.
  • They reach $500 in completed payments (sent to a vendor or received from the customer) within 60 days of signing up.

"Completed" means the payment has actually been sent or received. If a payment is scheduled within the 60-day window but completes shortly after, it still counts toward the payments threshold.

Rewards start accruing as soon as referrals become completed. You don't need to have your payout account set up first. However, you won’t be able to get your reward without setting it up.

How you get paid

To receive payouts, you complete a one-time setup that connects your Melio account to Impact.com, Melio's referral payout partner.

Once setup is complete, rewards are paid out automatically. You don't need to log in and claim them. Rewards are typically deposited within 30–60 days of each completed referral.

Only Owner and Admins can set up and manage the payout account.

Tracking your referrals

Your Refer and earn page includes a referral tracker that shows:

  • Emails sent: How many referral emails you've sent.
  • Total signups: How many people signed up using your link.
  • Completed referrals: How many have met the conditions for a reward.
  • Total earned rewards: The total amount you have earned.

Each referral also shows a status: Pending signup, Signed up, Completed, or Expired. From the tracker you can also resend a referral email or cancel a referral invitation.
