What is Melio Card?

  • Updated

This article is for vendors who were offered Melio Card, or who already have it, and want to understand what it is and how it works.

This article includes the following sections:

What is it?

Melio Card is a card with a balance that automatically receives payments sent to you through Melio by a certain payor. You can also receive the payments to this card from other payors if you share with them your payment link. Unlike a single-use virtual card, it can be used as many times as you wish: once it's active, every future payment from those payors lands directly into your card, and you can spend it whenever you want.

If you're not sure whether you have Melio Card or a single-use virtual card, see What is the difference between Melio Card and a single-use virtual card?

Why use Melio Card?

  • Instant - Eligible payments are expedited into your balance automatically, at no extra cost.
  • Reusable - The same card keeps working for every future payment from that payor; you don't need to request a new card each time.
  • Flexible - Spend your balance in a single or multiple transactions anywhere cards are accepted, or add the card to your phone's digital wallet.
  • No cost to receive or hold - Melio doesn't charge a fee for receiving payments into your card or for holding it.

Melio Card characteristics

  • A virtual card: there's no physical card at this time.
  • Has a balance that grows with each payment from your payor, rather than a fixed one-time amount.
  • Unlike a single-use virtual card, it doesn't expire in 30 days (has a regular expiry time).
  • You have one Melio Card. You can share your payment link with more than one payor, so all of them can pay into the same balance.
  • Requires a one-time sign-up and business verification before it's ready to use.
  • Viewing your full card number, CVV, and expiration date requires a quick verification step each time, for security.
  • Issued through Melio's card partner, CapitalOS.

Unlike a single-use virtual card, which needs no sign-up, Melio Card requires you to complete a sign-up and verify your business before you can use it.

How do I get Melio Card?

You saw Melio Card offered as an option when you were notified about a payment sent to you through Melio, and chose to activate it.

To activate Melio Card, you'll complete a sign-up and verify your business. While your application is reviewed, you'll see a message letting you know your card is being set up - this may take a little time. Once you're approved, your card becomes active.

From there, you can view your card details and spend your balance whenever you want.

How do I stop using it?

You can stop using Melio Card at any time by contacting us. This is permanent. If you want to use Melio Card again in the future, you'll need to sign up again.

See How do I stop receiving payments to my Melio Card? for more detail.
