How to downgrade a subscription plan

  • Updated

Downgrading the subscription plan may affect the following:

  • Reduced features: You lose some features that were previously available in the premium plan.
  • Reduced access: You may lose the access of some team members to your Melio account. For example, the Go plan allows only the owner to access the account.
  • Customer experience changes: There might be a difference in customer support speed and channels. Premium subscribers get priority support.

This article is relevant for: Core subscribers, and Boost subscribers.

When will my downgrade go into effect?

Downgrading the plan takes effect in the next billing cycle.

Since billing occurs at the beginning of the cycle for the entire period, you can enjoy your paid features until the end of the current billing cycle.

How the billing is calculated

When downgrading, the new plan will take effect in the next billing cycle.

Let’s see an example:

  • Your current plan: Boost, includes 1 user, monthly billing cycle, $55 per month
  • Downgrade plan:  Core, includes 1 user, monthly billing cycle, $25 per month
  • Time of downgrade: May 15th

The monthly cycle is 30 days. Therefore, there are 10 days left to enjoy the current plan.

On June 1st the plan will be downgraded and you’ll be billed for:

The Core plan that includes 1 user = $25.

Do I need to downgrade my plan to reduce the number of team members who have access to my account?

No. You can remove users without changing your current plan.

Plans are defined by their features and capabilities. You don't need to sacrifice functionality to lower your subscription fees by removing access for team members.

Note: What happens to the users when downgrading to the Go plan?

The Go plan allows only 1 team member to access the account- the Owner. If the account has more than one user and you downgrade to the Go plan, the access of any team member who isn’t the Owner will be denied.

How to downgrade your plan

1. Sign in to your Melio account.

2. Go to Settings in the left sidebar.
3. Under Payments & billing, click Plans.

4. In Current plan, you see the details of the plan you’re subscribed to now. Click the three dots.
5. Select Manage plans from the dropdown list.

7. In Downgrade to Melio Core popup we’ll advise you what features and capabilities will no longer be available in the new plan. Click Downgrade to confirm.

Note: Is canceling the subscription plan the same as downgrading to the Go plan?

Yes, it is.

The Go plan is free and allows access to one team member and no premium features. Canceling the subscription allows you to keep using Melio like a Go subscriber.
