How to connect a bank account to Banking

  • Updated

Connect your bank to Banking to see its balances and transactions in Melio. We'll show you how to connect a bank through Plaid, choose which accounts to show, and save your selection.

Only the account Owner can connect bank accounts to Banking. Connecting an account here doesn't add it as a payment method or receiving method.

In this guide, you will learn the following:

Open Manage bank accounts

1- From the left sidebar, select Banking.

2- Select + Add account. The Connect a bank account popup opens.

Alternatively, from your homepage, find the Banking widget, select the All accounts dropdown, and select Manage accounts.

In the Manage bank accounts screen, select + Connect bank accounts at the top. To add another account from a bank you've already connected, select + Connect another account under that bank instead.

3- Select Connect another bank. Plaid opens.

Connecting the same bank more than once can create duplicate accounts and double your balances and transactions.

Connect your bank through Plaid

Plaid is a secure service that connects your bank to Melio. Melio never sees your banking sign-in details.

4- In Plaid, enter your Phone number.

5- Enter the verification code you received.

6- You can now choose to either select a saved institution and add another bank account from that bank or you can select + Add new institution to add a new bank.

If you haven't added a bank account yet, Plaid asks you to add a new bank right away.

If you selected a saved institution, you will be directed to log in and select an account. You will be directed back to your added bank accounts in the Manage bank accounts screen. Your added account will now be listed under Connected bank accounts. You can now proceed to step 19.

7- If you chose + Add new institution to add a new bank, you can now select a bank from the available list. You can scroll down or use the search bar to search for your bank.

8- Select Continue to log in to proceed.

9- Fill in your bank login credentials. This includes your username and password.

10 -Select Sign in to continue.

The sign-in and verification screens vary by bank.

11- Choose how you want to verify your identity.

12- Select Get code.

13- Under Verification, enter the code you received and select Submit.

14- Check the box next to the bank account you want to connect to your Melio account.

If you selected a saved institution, you will be directed to log in and select an account. You will be directed back to your added bank accounts in the Manage bank accounts screen. Your added account will now be listed under Connected bank accounts. You can now proceed to step 19.

15- (Optional) Scroll down to Select additional information you want to share and check the two boxes.

16- Select Continue.

17- Under Terms and Conditions, check the box to accept them.

18-  Select Connect account information. You will be directed to the Manage bank accounts screen, and your new account appears under Connected bank accounts.

Your new account is now connected.

Choose accounts and save

19- Turn on the toggle next to each account you want to show in Banking.

Bank accounts you already use for payments may also appear here with a Payment method or Delivery method tag. They only start showing data in Banking after you select Save.Credit card accounts also appear in this list, but their toggle can’t be turned on.

20- Select Save. You will be directed back to the Banking page. Your accounts will now sync.

The first sync can take up to about 30 minutes. This is an estimate, not a guaranteed time. Your balances and transactions appear as soon as they're ready, and you can keep working in Melio in the meantime.

That's it! Your bank accounts are connected to Banking, and their balances and transactions appear once syncing is complete.
